Caryota ObtusaThe Caryota Obtusa is a giant mountain fishtail palm from Asia. It was found in open wet woodlands and grasslands in India. It is also known as the Indian fishtail palm. This fishtail palm is very similar to the Caryota gigas.

The Fishtail palm tree has large, flat, arching, bipinnate with fishtail leaflets leaves and a smooth, slender, light-grey trunk. The fruits of this Caryota palm are irritant and poisonous. The C. obtusa grows 35 feet tall. It has moderately fast growth rate when established.

Fishtail Palm : Caryota ObtusaThis fishtail palm prefers medium to light shade, regular watering and well-drained soils. It is hardy to 25-30 F. The Caryota obtusa is moderately drought and salt tolerant.

This caryota palm is very common in cultivation. When young the C.obtusa makes a great houseplant.
