Fishtail Palm : Caryota Cumingii
The Caryota cumingii, also known as the Philippines fishtail palm is a medium sized Fishtail palm. It grows 40 feet tall. It is very similar to the Caryota mitis.
The Fishtail palm tree has a smooth, prominently ringed, white trunk and bipinnate with fishtail leaflets, dark green leaves. The leaf petioles are unarmed.
C.cumingii is native to Philippines rainforests.
The Caryota cumingii prefers sunny, moist, well drained locations. It grows well in full sun to partial shade. The Caryota palm requires regular watering. It can be grown as an ornamental in the tropics, but this fistail palm tree is rare in cultivation.
In its natural habitat the sap of the C. cumingii is used to make wine and alcohol. The heart palm (cabbage) is eaten, and the leaves are used fot thatch.
